BIOGRAPHY:

Here is some basic Wing Chun knowledage shared by our Wing Chun Master, Master Zhang and translated by the school translator: This is the true history, so might be different from the movie and legendary.

A Brief Introduction of Wing Chun
As a kind of traditional martial arts of southern China, Wing Chun is a kind of technique to defend the invasion and a kind of Chinese boxing with positive, extractive and rightful defense system as well as legal force. Comparing with other traditional Chinese martial arts, it concentrates on subduing opponents as soon as possible so as to minimize the harm to them. There are several statements about the origin of Wing Chun, but for the elegant name of it, “Prince Boxing” is acknowledged: Winchun stems from royal nobles, it was confidential and never circulated widely. During the war-tron Chinese modern times, Ip Man spread it in Hong Kong and it become popular and famous in the whole word. His disciples spread winchun around the world widely, “Wing Tsun”, an authoritative traditional Chinese martial arts practical course, was created. Winchun, whose theory is depending on human body meridian, is a kind of distinctive Southern Fist. It emphasizes using the correct concept, conscious and the mode of thinking to lead the agile coordination of body. Winchun contains little idea form, sinking bridge form, darting fingers form, wooden dummy and sticky hands. The weapons conclude one staff and two broadswords.
Annotation: the weapon forms of Winchun only could be spread among companions or senior coaches, it’s could never be exported easily.

Origion
There are many different sayings and versions about the origin of Winchun. Here is the mostly popular version:
Wing Chun was created by a female Shaolin Master called Wu Mei (Ng Mui). She was also a great master in Shaolin white crane style. In the Qing Dynasty (1644—1911), the Southern Shaolin Temple was set on fire by the government. Five great Shaolin Martial Artists (Wu Mei, Zhi Shan, Bai Mei, Feng Dao De and Miao Xian) managed to fight the enemy and escape. In order to avoid the Persecution from the government, Wu Mei hide in the DaLiang Mountain, which is situated on the boarder of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. In this duration, she kept practicing Kung fu; occasionally she saw a snake and crane fight. This enlightened her and she created her own unique style on this basis. Later on, she passed this style to Yan Yong Chun (Yim Wing Chun). After Wing Chun gained this, she systematized it and widely spread the form. Then people named this style Wing Chun to memorize her.
Actually the Winchun at present is developed with the help of the masters in each generations.
There’s written records that Huang Huabao and Liang Erdi practice Winchun and they taught a person from Foshan, Liang Zan. Because of this , Winchun become very popular in Foshan.

Here is the written inheriting of Wing Chun:

The contents of Wing Chun
The main forms of Wing Chun are Little Idea, Sinking Bridge, the tree forms of Darting fingers and the wooden dummy. The basic hand techniques are dispersing arm, wing arm and controlling arm. And there are some others such as cultivating arm, pillow arm, broken line arm, lower bridge and sticking hit. The main stances are Siping horse stance, Erzi horse stance, Zhui horse stance, Gui horse stand and independent stance. Wing Chun combines internal forms and kinda, it requires the trainers to union their hands, waist, horse stance, heart, idea and power. It emphasizes using heart to control the idea, use the idea to lead the movement of hands, waist and legs. It depends on practical sparring, it’s very changeable, flexible, elastic and it’s very powerful in a short time and distance. It’s hand techniques contain large inside, flat attitude, dispersing, wing controlling
cultivating and bending empty hands. It has figures and footworks as ride, cut, sink, mark, wrist, sticky and parallel clamp horse stance.

Characteristics and strengths
Wing Chun is very scientific, practical and fast with intensive defending. The stances of is flexible and could be changed fast. Its attacking and defending could be done at the same time. It emphasizes the combination of hardness and tenderness and wastes the least energy. Wing Chun uses the explosive power to attack and defend. In theory and mind, the middle line, hips, chasing shapes towards face, the consideration of both sides, holding and chasing, swing hands are emphasized. It’s strength is sparring in the shortest distance.

The middle line theory refers to the line from the top to caudal vertebrae of human body. In attacking, Winchun command that the trainers should attack toward the middle line of the opponent from the middle line of themselves. This is the shortest distance between two persons who have the same speed of punching. The one with the shorter routine of punching would hit firstly. If the middle line is attacked, the person will feel heavy power, and this one part of the most practical theory in Chinese martial arts system.
In Winchun, the power depends on the middle line of human body, because of this, the Winchun trainers should have powerful gross motor on the back. This power using method is quite different from those martial arts which need the power from the muscle from waist and arms.
In November of 2014, Winchun was listed into the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative martial arts items.
