After years of planning to come to China, I arrived at a school in wudang next to the shaolin temple. The living conditions were horrible, and the training was even worse. When I left I felt lost, but I called this school and was accepted immediately. The conditions here are what I expected in china. Minimalistic dorm rooms, public shower and bathroom. The staff cleans every single day which makes it 100x better than the other school. Once you get used to the hard bed there is no problem (and you could always order a mattress on taobao). As for the food, it is surprisingly delicious. The only complaint is that if you're staying here for a long time the same meals get repetitive.
Now the most important part, the training. The masters here seem otherworldly. While I was here there were multiple shaolin warrior monks from the actual temple, there was a nationally recognized champion of wushu, and there are multiple wise masters that have been doing martial arts for longer than I've been alive. I was in the shaolin and sanda classes which are two of the more difficult classes at the school. The training was everything I wanted and more. You are pushed beyond your limits here, in more than just a physical aspect. You are pushed physically, mentally, and in other ways you wouldn't expect.
Since you are in china, and this is a school for foreigners, you might experience culture shock. Obviously not everyone is like the people from your home. Once that is overcome you can make some of the best friends you've had in your life. The atmosphere is incredible because everyone is here to do one thing. Work on themselves to become the best they can be, by doing kung fu of course! JAIYOU!
