BIOGRAPHY:

I really enjoyed my stay at the school. I learned a lot, got much fitter, stronger, more flexible and healthier in the month that I stayed here.
I mainly did Wing Chun with Master Zhang, with some Shaolin (in the afternoons), and also a couple of weeks of Taiji in the mornings and evenings.
Thanks to Master Zhang’s incredible amount of knowledge – not only of Wing Chun practice, movement and forms, but also the theory and history behind it – I managed to improve my skills significantly in those 4 weeks I was here. In line with his teachings, I have managed to reprogramme my brain and body as well as establish a mind-body connection so that I’m now able to feel and enact movements in the Wing Chun way.
Due to Master Zhang’s humorous (but effective) teaching style, I was also able to feel comfortable and thereby better able to take in the information. He also taught us Qigong once a week and has a great knowledge of and respect for the spiritual side of things, which I appreciated.

I also did Shaolin and benefitted from Master Wei’s enormous amount of experience, his clear instructions, as well as his firm but fair and friendly teaching style. Master Wei also speaks very good English and is a great motivator, which meant that he was able to give instructions clearly but also push students (including myself) to go the extra mile and perform at our personal best.

The Taiji Master, Master Liu, also had an impressive amount of knowledge as well as lots of patience for students who couldn’t learnt he forms as fast as others, while still encouraging and tending to the faster learners as well. He also seemed to have incredibly good memory: he always seemed to know which students were learning which form. Master Liu has additionally got a lot of cultural knowledge, including of Chinese calligraphy, which I enjoyed.

Overall, I believe that Master Wei has created a great and special place with this school, opening it up to foreigners who want to learn Kung Fu in China. The fact that there are also Chinese kids attending the school makes for a beautiful and often playful atmosphere, which I cherished.
Finally, all the staff working at the school, including the translators Eva and David, who are super helpful, kind and fun, as well as all the kitchen and cleaning ladies: everyone is always friendly, seems happy to see and greet you, ready to help, and open-minded as well as competent and dedicated. It did feel very much like a big family.
Lastly, I also appreciated that the school catered to my needs as a vegetarian as well.

Thank you for everything!
